The Pro-Rectory of Research and Graduate Studies (“Propesp”) is responsible for promoting the development of science and technology, strengthening graduate programs and encouraging that the knowledge generated at the university laboratories and research groups contribute to improving the quality of life to people.
Propesp supports the graduate programs, amongst specialization, residence, masters’ and doctoral degrees by taking actions needed to implement the graduate education policies defined by the Superior Councils; issuing opinions on curriculum structure changing processes or the creation of new programs; managing the implementation of research scholarships and coordinating assessment processes.
In addition, Propesp also gives international visibility to the research developed at FURG, by implementing the University Internationalization Policy and executing agreements with educational institutions and research centers in several countries around the world.
Awakening a culture of research and innovation
In order to stimulate the research interest in undergraduate students, Propesp promotes scientific and technological initiation and innovation programs, financed with resources from FURG itself or other agencies, such as Capes, CNPq and Fapergs.
In the development of entrepreneurial culture, Propesp is responsible for junior companies, for a Technology-Based Companies Incubator, called Innovatio, and a Scientific Technological Park, called Oceantec. Through these bodies and other actions, Propesp is responsible for managing entrepreneurial initiatives, as well as organizing and managing the University’s intellectual property and technology transfer.
